Hong Kong Chamber Music Society
January 2010 Newsletter

Dear All,

Happy New Year! Over the past 6 months, The HKCMS Committee has been hard at work selecting artists and preparing programmes for the 2010 concert season.

Our first event of the new year, a recital by pianist Evelyn Chang, will take place on 27th January at our usual meeting place in Central. On April 14th, we are presenting a piano recital by Simon Mulligan. On May 6th, we will present two outstanding European violinists, Rafal Zambrzycki-Payne and Agnieszka Marucha, in a dazzling programme of solos and duets. On June 2nd, we have organized an evening of Italian music for violin and guitar. Please renew your membership now, so that you won't miss a single note of great music!

Please accept our apologies for the fact that the 2009 concert season was suspended in mid-year. There were a number of reasons for this, and I welcome the opportunity to explain what happened. (Also, please rest assured that those of you who paid membership fees in 2009 will receive a $150 loyalty discount at the first concert you attend in 2010.)

To our dismay, we only received membership fees from six couples and four individuals in 2009. It is virtually impossible to organize successful events on such a tight budget.

To complicate matters further, the private clubs where we normally hold our concerts had put in place new terms and conditions ($) which effectively prevented us from holding concerts in the last 3 months of 2009. We believe that, by getting the current season off to a strong start, we should able to meet these challenging new requirements ($$$) by the last 3 months of 2010! We can make this our most successful season ever, but not without your full support. So please spread the word about our concerts. I look forward to meeting you at our next 4 concerts.

Yours musically,
Dr. Elaine Cheung
Programme Coordinator of HKCMS
