Anonymous Quartet


Formed in 2009, the Anonymous Quartet is a professional piano quartet in Hong Kong. It consists of some of the most sought-after musicians in Hong Kong, whose paths crossed after receiving their studies at prestigious conservatories and institutions in Germany, Australia, UK, USA and Canada, with all four having extensive chamber music experiences internationally. 

Past performances have included recitals presented by LCSD in 2010, 2011 and 2013, the Hong Kong Museum of Art Concert Series, Hong Kong University of Science &Technology, Chinese University of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Sinfonietta’s “Work in Progress” series at ArtisTree, Island East.

Upcoming engagements include performances in China, Taiwan and Vietnam. They have also recorded and can be heard on RTHK Radio 4. This dynamic group brings their collective talents with a common goal to promote chamber music, particularly for the genre of the piano quartet, from old to new.

The Anonymous Quartet is Gallant Ho (Violin), William Lane (Viola), Anna Kwan (Cello) and Sheryl Lee (Piano). 

GALLANT HO KA LEUNG, VIOLIN
Violinist with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra since 2002, Gallant Ho received his Bachelor Degree from the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts(HKAPA) in 2000 and earned his Master of Music Degree at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music after receiving a scholarship from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund for Overseas Study in 2000. At the conservatory, he studied violin under Wei He and Camilla Wicks, and chamber music with the late Nathan Schwartz.
He has performed in masterclasses for Joseph Silverstein, Henry Roth, Pinchas Zukerman, Yfrah Neaman, Sylvia Rosenburg, Jorja Fleezanis, Elmer Oliveira,Sergiu Luca and the late Isaac Stern.  Gallan tHo has performed as a soloist with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra. 


WILLIAM LANE, VIOLA
William Lane performed as a soloist, orchestral player and chamber musician all over Australasia, Asia, Europe and North America. Recipient of a number of large scholarships and prize-winner at various international competitions, he studied under Jan Sedivka (Australia), Bruno Giuranna (Italy) and Garth Knox (France), as well as in Germany at the International Ensemble Modern Akademie. He has been recipient of a number of awards and scholarships, including the Alcorso Scholarship and an Asialink Fellowship. William was Violist in the Hong Kong Philharmonic (2008-2010), Principal Viola of Ensemble Resonanz (Hamburg/ Germany, 2007-2008), as well as working on a freelance basis with Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt, 2006-2007), the SMASH Ensemble (Salamanca/ Spain, 2008). As an orchestral musician he has worked as Principal Viola with the Australian Youth Orchestra and casual player with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. As a new music advocate, William is Artistic Director of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, giving regular concerts in Hong Kong, Macau, Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. He has also appeared as a guest lecturer and performer at University College Cork (Ireland), University of Newcastle (UK), Australian Institute of Music (Sydney), ORKA-M (India), Princeton University (USA) and Kings College (London).


ANNA KWAN TON AN, CELLO
Anna Kwan Ton An, an acclaimed young virtuoso of the new generation started learning the cello when she was ten at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. She received her Bachelor Degree at Oberlin Conservatory of Music and obtained her Masters of Music at Yale University.

Anna has worked with members of the Vermeer,Emerson, Colorado and Tokyo String Quartets.  In 1992, she was chosen to be the only representative from Hong Kong to attend the Interlochen Arts Campin Michigan, USA with full scholarship.  She was principal cello of the Asian Youth Orchestra  in 1995 and a member of the Jeunesses Musicales World Youth Orchestra, orchestra in residence of the Verbier Music Festival, Switzerland in 1996 and 1997.  Anna also toured with the Yale Cellos, performing at the Manchester Cello Festival and Rencontre de Violoncelles in Beauvais, a CD of the concert was released for Calliope record label.  Anna joined the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra in 2001.  In 2006 she was invited by Maestro Myung-Whun Chung to perform as a member of the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra for a performance in Seoul, Korea.  


SHERYL LEE, PIANO
Sheryl Lee gave her orchestral debut with Utah Symphony under the baton of Joseph Silverstein at age 13 and was admitted to the Juilliard School shortly thereafter. She has garnered awards and international acclaim for her solo, orchestral and chamber music performances across Asia, Europe, Canada and the United States. Festival appearances have included Aspen, Sarasota, Maverick Concert, Casalmaggiore, Centre d'Arts Orford and Banff Music Centre.  An avid chamber musician, Sheryl performs regularly with artists from Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, New York and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestras. 

Sheryl began her piano studies at the age of four with Katherine Lu and subsequently with Eleanor Wong at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts prior to moving to the United States in 1993. At the invitation of the late Maria Curcio, one of the most sought-after piano pedagogues and the last pupil of Artur Schnabel, Sheryl moved to study with her in London, England in 1995. She received her formal education at Yale University where she was awarded the Hong Kong Jockey Club Music and Dance Fund for her studies under the tutelage of Peter Frankl and New York University. 
Sheryl has served on the Adjunct Faculty of Piano at New York University. She was an Artist Faculty of Chamber Music at the award-winning New York Youth Symphony.    Sheryl enjoys a multi-faceted career in arts and music management. She worked at Hong Kong Sinfonietta Limited as Artistic Development Manager and then as General Manager of the Far East company of Naxos, the world’s leading classical music label and distribution company.
